Orders, the kitchen board and payments
Updated Nov 3, 2026
How ordering works
- The customer taps a dish on the menu to choose its options and extras, and adds it to the bag.
- In the cart they check the order, choose delivery or pickup and can enter a coupon code.
- To place the order they sign in or create a free account. Their bag is kept while they do.
- They choose Pay online (Stripe) or Cash on delivery / Pay at counter, and land on the order confirmed page.
Prices, extras, taxes and coupons are always worked out on your server, never in the browser.
The Restaurant admin
Saffron & Sage adds a Restaurant menu to your WordPress dashboard (for editors and administrators):
- Live orders: the kitchen's board. Move each order on: preparing, ready, on the way, delivered or picked up, or cancel it. The customer sees each change live in their account.
- Orders: every order with its items, total, type and status.
- Reservations: every table booking.
- Overview: how the restaurant is doing.
Taking payments with Stripe
- In Stripe, copy your publishable key and secret key (start with the test keys).
- In WordPress, go to Settings → Payments and paste them.
- Place a test order with Stripe's test card
4242 4242 4242 4242, then switch to your live keys.
Until keys are added, customers can still order with cash on delivery or pay at the counter.
